My friend and mentor Les Brown, has a saying, he says "A career is something you love so much you'll do it for free, but you do it so well people will pay you to do it." Well I was thinking, the reason you have to love it so much you'd do it for free is because when you start out, you probably will do it for free! It takes a while to get up and get running. And we live in an instant society. You know, baked potato in what, like 3 minutes or something? Everything is instant, microwave, we don't want to wait. So many people will give up before they get to the tipping point, before they get to the point where they start to really be successful, to make money at something. Give yourself the time. Most businesses don't make money the first 3 years. You've gotta wait 3 to 5 years. So sit down, write yourself out a 5 year plan and don't give up. You know the success of someone is very often related to the distance into the future that they can think. The further into the future someone can think, the more successful they are going to be. Because they are able to plan it out and wait for it. We make 5 year plans at least, the Japanese make something like 500 year plans! It's crazy, much older society! Give yourself the time, it'll happen, just keep at it.
